James P. Rector serves as Senior Associate General Counsel at West Virginia University. As a Senior Associate General Counsel, James assists the University with a variety of legal matters, including constitutional law, real estate, complex business transactions, construction, procurement, and Freedom of Information Act requests.
Prior to joining WVU, James practiced as a litigator at Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, representing Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 clients in complex real property litigation, energy litigation, and general civil litigation matters.
James earned his Juris Doctor from WVU College of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in international Affairs from The George Washington University. While in law school, he was selected to serve on the Moot Court National Team and as a Dean’s Fellow in the Academic Excellence Program.
James resides in Morgantown and enjoys playing music in his spare time.
