Carol Ann Marunich serves as Deputy General Counsel at West Virginia University. As a Deputy General Counsel, Carol works closely with the University’s senior leadership by providing legal services in a wide range of practice areas, including medical malpractice, healthcare issues, employment law, employee relations, litigation, ADA issues involving employees and Title IX compliance.
Prior to joining WVU in 2013, Carol served as a trial attorney in private practice since 1991. She has tried numerous civil cases to verdict in the areas of labor and employment, medical malpractice, and general defense litigation. Carol also represented numerous coal companies in administrative mine safety and health proceedings. In addition, she has argued in front of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.
Carol received her Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1991 and her undergraduate degree in Political Science from West Virginia University in 1985. She is admitted to practice in the state courts of West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Carol is a member of the Marion and Monongalia County Bar Associations and is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
Carol resides in Fairmont, WV with her husband.
